You can easily avoid this problem by adding an additional layer of protection with the Valken Tactical 3G Wire Mesh Ear Protectors.

Because this piece of protective gear is so lightweight, it is also very comfortable to wear. To further improve comfort, the mesh on each side is edged with a soft nylon fabric that resists chaffing and keeps the metal from contacting your skin. An elastic strap connects the dual mesh ear protectors and is adjustable to fit nearly all players regardless of size or headgear choice. The loop side of a hook and loop fastener is stitched to the center of the strap, and the corresponding hook side comes with single sided adhesive so you can attach it to the inside of your operator hat, BUMP helmet, or other headgear to hold this ear protection securely in place underneath your operator cap or airsoft helmet.
